Willie Thorne Snooker Centre
Attenborough House
Charles Street
Leicester
LE1 1FA
Tel: 0116 2626239

This unique club, established and run by Willie Thorne's brother, Malcolm, opened in 1980. Since then, it has grown to accomodate 24 full-size snooker tables, and to become one of the greatest and most famous snooker clubs in the world.

Renowned throughout the snooker world, Willie Thorne's has become famous for its unique competitions - mostly thanks to the legendary Sunday Handicaps, to which there has been a record entry of 103, enjoyed by juniors, amateurs and professionals alike.

For many years, and still today, Willie Thorne's has been famed for its formerly-unique junior tournaments. Now Under 16 tournaments are held, to which the creme of British junior talent turns out every few weeks.

The club is a good name in the city of Leicester, not least because of its outstanding meals, on good account "the best snooker food in Britain". Custom home-made meals are cooked throughout the day, and the club offers a wide range of hot and cold food and drinks. Many people, young and old, come to the club exclusively for the food. In addition, there is a fully-featured bar, offering a wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

And where better to enjoy your meal than in the club's very own 100+-seater lounge, where you can relax with friends and family in a comfortable and friendly atmosphere. You can also play on the numerous fruit machines, cluedo computer game, virtual reality racing game, skittles, and team darts. There is also a sky and digital-equipped big screen, where you can catch all the live football and snooker action.

Malcolm Thorne Manager
In 1980, Malcolm Thorne, brother of Willie, opened a club with his family. It quickly became established as one of the best-known clubs in the world. In the mid-80's Malcolm, at this new Willie Thorne Snooker Centre, staged the Everards Brewery Open Championships, which for seven years attracted over four hundred entries, until the professional game went open. Since then his club has become probably the most famous club in the world for pro-ams, junior events and handicaps. Malcolm is the Leicestershire County Secretary and England Team Manager, and has been since 1995. Since then the England team has lost only one match in over fifty internationals. For the past three years, the side, seniors, ladies and juniors, ahve recorded a unique clean sweep. Malcolm also sits on the English Association for Snooker and Billiards Management and Tournaments Committee, and holds the title of Press Officer. He also writes a column, on snooker of course, in the local newspaper. Outside the snooker world, Malcolm is a very keen fisherman, travelling to Ireland every year, and once to Lake Wasser, Egypt.
