World
Championship Sensation..............................................
...........................Cuesports
Online does it again!!!!
David
Gray 10 frames - Ronnie O'Sullivan 9 frames
DAVID
GRAY, a member of Colours, Redhill re-wrote the form-book
when he beat Ronnie O'Sullivan by 10 frames to 9 at the Crucible,
Sheffield in the first round of the World Snooker Championship.
An
Astonishing Double
Following
on the astonishing defeat of World Champion Stephen Hendry by
outsider Stuart Bingham - yes, folks another Cuesports
Online player - click here for THAT
astonishing story! [Basildon
Snooker] DAVID GRAY turned over in-form and
hotly-tipped-for-the-title Ronnie O'Sullivan in this incredible
topsy-turvy Championship.
No
Excuses
A
bigger sensation than Bingham's defeat of Hendry? "Well"
says Haydn Davies, manager of Redhill, "Ronnie had just come
off a great win in the Scottish Masters, only last week, and took
the current World No.1, Mark Williams apart 9-1 in the
process." Even more incredible, O'Sullivan played very well
- no 'out-of-form' excuses from O'Sullivan. As Haydn says,
"DAVID GRAY showed the kind of form, consistency and
temperament of someone way above his world ranking of 60."
Redhill
is Buzzing
Seventy-five
years young Doug Melchior, Redhill's long established table maintenance
carer, and DAVID GRAY's Godfather and mentor, was thrilled
by his godson's remarkable victory. "I have always believed
that David has what it takes", says Doug, "ever since
he won the World Amateur Championship at the tender age of sixteen."
Just a little bit of hindsight from a fond godfather? Not a bit
of it! Doug says with a smile, "By the way, I had £20
on David winning the match at 7-to-1 and I predict a Quarter or
Semi-final place at least. Oh, and Haydn if its alright with you
I'm off to Sheffield at the week-end!". And off he goes with
the best wishes of Haydn, the staff and members of Redhill.
Round
Two - and the 'Redhill Return'
In
the next round DAVID
GRAY faces Dominic Dale, with Doug ringside. But David
has his priorities right. As Haydn says, "He
has promised to play in the Redhill Sunday Night handicap as soon
as Sheffield is over". Something to look forward to
around May. Watch this space.
