The Potting Shed

In 1980, Malcolm Thorne, brother of Willie, opened a club with his family. It quickly became established as one of the best-known clubs in the world.

In the mid-80's Malcolm, at this new Willie Thorne Snooker Centre, staged the Everards Brewery Open Championships, which for seven years attracted over four hundred entries, until the professional game went open.

Since then his club has become probably the most famous club in the world for pro-ams, junior events and handicaps.

Malcolm is the Leicestershire County Secretary and England Team Manager, and has been since 1995. Since then the England team has lost only one match in over fifty internationals. For the past three years, the side, seniors, ladies and juniors, ahve recorded a unique clean sweep.

Malcolm also sits on the English Association for Snooker and Billiards Management and Tournaments Committee, and holds the title of Press Officer. He also writes a column, on snooker of course, in the local newspaper.

Outside the snooker world, Malcolm is a very keen fisherman, travelling to Ireland every year, and once to Lake Wasser, Egypt.

Malcolm's first article with his thoughts from the potting shed will appear here soon.
